Here’s a few little lo-fi samplings of our set from last month at The Rock Shop. Good times, great place, and awesome peeps. Thanks again to everyone who came out and showed your support – we’ll see you again soon!

We had a most excellent time sharing the stage with Happy Lives and The Hecklers. The show featured the super long-awaited debut of new Iced Ink member NAVIN the movie projector playing a delightful salad of weird old clips behind us as we made live rock.

You know what they say: The second gig is the one that comes after the first one. Our second show took place at UC Lounge a few Saturdays ago and it was a bigger blast than all of the explosions in 2008′s RAMBO combined. We had our very own gaggle of dancers at the foot of the stage… It was like watching some sick, twisted, wonderful episode of Fame. Thanks so much to everybody for coming out and showing your support.

One particular participant in said gaggle of dancers took it upon herself to write about her experience at this show. It’s quite the amusing read to say the very least. Evidently we rocked her face off. WOW was Greenpoint Gallery ever a blast. Thanks so much to everybody who allowed us to pummel their ears. Rumor has it there were roughly 270 people in attendance that night. Dang! Thanks to Emily Einhorn, Blues In Space, Chamber Band, and Captain Baby. Extra special thanks and big ups to Greenpoint Gallery for hosting such an awesome event.

I’ve always loved writing music with drum machines. Upon the DR-670′s release in the early 2000′s I saw a photo of it and had an instant gear crush. What an attractive piece of machinery. I love its colors and the fonts on all of the buttons. It kind of reminded me of a Stormtrooper. I had to have it and sold my BOSS DR-550 to pay for part of it. This is what was used for drum tracks on older Iced Ink demos – it’s still used now but only as a MIDI trigger for VST drum plugins.

The title comes from the scene in the movie Mask when Rocky Dennis was making his blind love interest Diana hold various items and explain to her what they looked like. If I were able to alter that scene he would hand her this exquisite looking contraption and tell her “White box with black buttons.” And then she’d press them and totally ruin the heartfelt moment with the resulting electronic drum sounds. This is assuming for some reason it was plugged into a PA system on the horse farm or wherever it was they were at.

Friday January 27th is not only Iced Ink’s first gig, but it’s also Greenpoint Gallery’s Open Call Art Show & Magical Music Showcase which means TWO STAGES AND FLOORS OF FUN. Some mighty fine ear and eye candy is being dished out all night. For those of you who prefer to partake in thirst quenching at events such as this, you’re in luck. Beverages of the alcoholic and non alcoholic varieties await you. It’s cash only and quite reasonably priced, so be sure to hit up the ATM before your arrival.
